Dr Chewki Ziani-Cherif obtained his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France, under the guidance of late Pr. Guy Solladié. He then continued with post-doctoral achievements with Pr. Jin Kun Cha at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL, then with Pr. John Boukouvalas at Laval University, Quebec, before joining the Neuroscience department of Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Florida in 1997. In 2002, he joined The University Abou-Bekr Belkaid in Tlemcen, Algeria where he has been holding a tenure-track full professor since.
One of his main research interests is gamma-secretase structure and modulation, as a therapeutical approach to Alzheimer‘s Disease.
He is also interested in natural products total synthesis. As such, his actual projects are the total synthesis of potent Pristinamycin IIA analogs as well the total synthesis of the Arteminolides family members, within the concept of green chemistry. Another subject he is currently working on is the development of new glycopeptides for broad anti-viral applications.
Dr Chewki Ziani-Cherif has worked and co-authored publications with names like Todd.E.Golde, MD.PhD., Elliott Richelson.M.D., Abdul Fauq, PhD, Jin Kun Cha. PhD, and Guy Solladié. PhD., to whom he is thankful.
Before joining Abou-Bekr Belkaid University, Dr Ziani-Cherif was a chemistry teacher at both the University of North Florida, and Florida Community College FCCJ, in Jacksonville, Florida, while conducting full-time research at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville.
